Default Temp gauge sender

Stock one broke, bought a replacement from Advance but my gauge now refuses to move and I've got a CEL. Does the sender feed info to both the gauge on the dash and the computer? (I've got a 98 so there's only one sender on the intake manifold)

Finally, on the sender I bought there is only one metal contact prong but there seems like there is two receivers in the connector on the truck. Do I have the wrong one or is it supposed to be like that?

Yeah I did have the wrong one. I read that 97/98 were crossover years for the sensors so I just had the parts guys look up the number for a 2001 dodge ram and it worked out fine.

Part numbers if anyone's interested:

Advance Auto: wt3026 - $15.99
Auto Zone: su381 - $12.99

on a side note, if your temp is acting funny, get another one, my AZ one was faulty and read about 20 degrees high
