Default Adjusting the gear linkage on trani?

So after replacing my tranny fluid and filter I've noticed some weird gear changes and every now and then a "clunk" gear change out of 3rd.
Now my fluid level is perfect and I'm thinking its the gear selector not quite adjusted right. Any one know how to adjust it right?

I'm running the 1994 5.9ltr 1500.

The fluid and filter should not have messed with the linkage.

1. Did you use ATF+4? If not, thats your problem
2. Are you checking it in neutral with the engine running?
When does it clunk? When driving or when shifting it into gear?

i would check those things... cause its an electric trans... ( 46r"E") so you cant adjust linkage as far as i know.. and besides. if you just changed things like fluid and filter... your "linkage" would still be the same as before

Its clunking from 2nd to 3rd but not all the time and its some times searching for the right gear , Fluid is the right kind and level.
Its a 1994 model so its not a 46re. Its a 46rh
The prob was there before the oil change just to clear things up.

the bands need adjustment...(thats what its known as)

but a fluid/filter change shouldnt have messed with that

try putting a quart of lucus transmission stop slip. i had a clunk when i put it in D, it wouldnt engage right away an my tranny is freshly rebuilt. put soe lucus in and it has shifted mint since (9K ago)

Sometimes the linkage gets messed up over time, where its showing neutral but really in drive, ect. Not sure if thats what you mean.
You can get under there and bend things around a bit to make it right, but thats really not a factor, so long as you recognize what gear its actually in.

Try adjusting the tranny throttle cable, don't know if the setup is the same in a 94.
Theres a button of sorts which unlocks the mechanism & allows you to increase or decrease the tension, and usually you'll feel a little click when it advances or recedes a tooth - Try just 1 tooth at a time, if it feels worse, set it back where it was and go the other way.
If it feels better try 1 more tooth and that should do it, small adjustments can make a big difference.

Thats it !! Thats what I need to do I just had a look at the tranny throttle cable and it looks real loose. I have the same set up on my Leyland p76 back home in Oz.
I'll have a go at adjusting it tomorrow.
