Default Changing my oil pan

So my oil pan just started to leak. Im getting a new one and wanted to if it will just un bolt and come out or if theres any thing im going to have to remove first.Its on a 1998 ram 5.9 1500.

should come right off, not sure though

and in your sig it says new plenum gasket...did you just change the gasket? if so your gunna have the problem again in about 40-50K

Yea i know, i couldent afford the huges plenum repair kit. Ill save so ill fix it right next time it goes!

You meant just to get a new gasket for your pan? There is no need to replace the oil pan. You have to remove the starter first. Go buy a Haynes manual since you dont know.

No its a little rusty and is finaly leaking a bit on the bottom, im curious if i can actualy weld it?

Don't weld it. Something could go wrong, wrong enough so that you would have to remove the pan. Like the drain plug getting stripped, for example.

you can get a pan cheap at a j/y

i checked http://car-part.com and found one for 40 bucks in my area

Id get a new pan or a good used one. Id be alittle worried about rust and moisture in my oil if its rusted threw also. I would never weld the oil pan.. But thats just me. Id feel a heck of alot better with a new one or a used perfect shape one.

Nothing wrong with welding a oil pan if it is taken off and done right and ain't rusted so bad that it is thin.
