Ok so I am tearing down the 318 to put in the 360. I had banked on putting in a new water pump as the truck has 146K miles on it and I am not sure of the history. Issue is I have pulled some bad water pumps, just replaced one for my sister-in law on a 5.9. I get this thing off and it shows no sign of wear, heck the back of it looks awsome. No RTV just can tell where old gasket is.

It would suck to spend the money on HS Rockers, headers, crate motor and put a used water pump on it but man I hate to spend $75 if it isn't needed.

I don't want to skimp but hate to replace something that appears to be fine and was working...................

if putting a new motor in, its kinda like an insurance policy, i ALWAYS put new water and oil pumps, new thermostats, and new or cleaned radiator, it might be $75 now, but could go out in 100 miles and ruin your new motor, or might last another 50,000 miles, is it a risk you want to take?

yeah i guess it would be kind of dumb not to replace it because I have a new T-stat, oil pump, oil pump screen and it has a new radiator (was in an accident at some point) I really think the water pump is "newer" but I will drop a new on in and sell this one on craigslist and recoup some of the money on the new one.

I agree,..after a sizable investment already,...better safe than sorry. Keep the current pump for a spare,...cause you just never know when tragedy will strike...*(or clean and paint it).

i would def. save it as a spare, for even if you buy a new water pump, at some point, wheather you still own it or not, its going to blow again, so might as well have a back up.
