Hood Latch Broken - Hood stuck down

Does the latch line up with the bar that goes into it? It might be an alignment issue if you can close the latch with a screwdriver and make it pop open again with the hood release.

your advice was good but not clear enough for me to find it, i dont know if i can post a link or not but this picture from a dodge recall on hood latches helped me alot

I had a problem with that secondary latch rod the other day. There is a plastic clip that keeps the rod attached to the secondary latch and that clip broke. The bar fell out of the secondary latch and wouldn't stay in place. I put the bar back through the secondary latch and wrapped some tape around the end, then I put a hose clamp on the tape and now it's staying in place.
