redneck tonneau cover
i've seen that website. that is some real craftsmanship. i wanted to copy the idea with the 2x4s on the inside of the bed for it to rest on and then cut the sides and make it flush(ish/er). but i need more (any at all) tools
I had a fiberglass ARE cover on my truck for the first 7 years I had it and got 12.5 MPG. I have had it removed for the last 3 years and now get 12.5 MPG.
yeah the principle behind the better gas mileage is there, its just not happening. what it is is that vortex or circular air that is created in ones bed when open actually pushes it off creating good airodynamics. with the cover its doing generally the same, letting air glide over it. now if someone has an aray of od objects in the bed often, then that would destroy the vortex of air and not let the airodynamics come into play, but if you had a cover over it then the airodynamics are there even with the odd shaped objects in the bed.
