Default URGENT! rear pinion seal problem

i am in the middle of replacing my rear pinion seal, on my chrysler 9.25 read end. i got it all taken apart and took off the old seal. well there was no gasket so i looked inside and saw what i assumed, and still believe was the gasket, so i cut it out and cleaned up around the pinion shaft. put the new seal on to the yoke (just how the old one came off) and tightened everything back up and put it together. when i put the big nut on it then i could spin the yoke or the axle. so i backed off. now there seems to be some play in the pinion where it goes into the pumpkin, and when the driveshaft is back on and spinning it leaks dif fluid like crazy.

i took everything apart, to see if maybe i pinched the seal or put it in backwards, and everything looks fine. i need to have this back together before tomorrow.

any help is appreciated! i knew i shouldnt have torn into this today....

pics coming soon.

by seal, do you mean crush sleeve? i've heard that a lot of people have trouble crushing that thing without giving it either too much or not enough torque to properly crush it. and i believe that you need a new one when you take the pinion nut off.

i didnt take out, or havent touched the crush sleeve. would that cause the pinion shaft to wiggle?

are you sure you have the right seal?
and did you drive it in then take it out then put it back in? the paint on the outer edge of the seal is there to make sure it doesn't leak.

it seems to me that the seal is too small and it isn't getting wedged in there tight enough to seal it. like maybe the paint on the new seal is missing.
or its in there cockeyed, is seal the same depth all the way around? it looks like the right side is deeper than the left. and that would make it leak.

When ever you take that nut off you HAVE to replace the crush sleeve it what keeps pre load on the pinon. If you dont know what your doing get it tow the a shop b/c driving it can cause damage to the ring and pinon.

Anyone have bad pinion bearings that were cratered in the race? Dodge redid mine 4 times.
