Default Tranny wont engage

ive got a 2001 ram 1500 4x4 auto-trans. starts up fine, apply brake and shift into any gear R-N-D-D2-D1 and a fairly loud buzzing noise emits from the tranny. and it doesnt enage most the time. if does it seems pretty delayed. unsafe to drive right now. i need help bad. fluid levels are good and not burnt. only about 10k miles since fluid and filter replaced. no current engine codes.

how many miles? these have weak trannys and typically by 150K they need a rebuild....it sounds like your torque converter is shot...

85,142 miles. how difficult is that to replace. or would it be safe to drive 10 miles to the shop in that condition without damaging anything else?

you dont want to go cheap on the TC....maybe like 200-400 bucks.and yes you have to drop the trans. id let someone with a lift and proper jacks do it...these trannys are heavy, and you dont want it to drop/damage anything

do you do any towing?

hmm as fun as that sounds to tackle, and as much as i hate to i may have to take it to a shop. only thing ive done to my tranny is drop the pan and replace a few things behind the filter. able to do that laying under the truck. I need it for work. plus the shop is only 2 minutes away from work. may have to bit the bullet on this one. ill try to get it there monday so ill post back when i found something out. if im feeling froggy in the morning i may drop the pan and see if anything floating around in there. thx for help
