oops i didnt realize it was a 94, i would unplug the o2 in the cat, and see if it runs any better, i had a local garage clean my injectors out, they had some machine that hooked up to it, but you can do it yourself any car parts store sells injector cleaner you pour into your gas tank, it sounds like its getting either way too much gas or not enuff, do you notice after a drive that you engine bay is really warm?

I don't Know why but, the diesel section has 2 code 37's for a 94 first one is Torque conv. clutch solenoid circuit open or shorted. The second is Transmission temp. sensor voltage signal above or below acceptable voltage values. As stated before, there is no code 37 for 1994 gasoline engine. Misprint ? There is also a note that says "not all trouble codes apply to all models"

Disconnect the neg. battery cable for at least 10 seconds to clear the codes.

It does be warm but how warm you talking about. If there is frost on the hood it takes about 20- 30 minutes driving and it starts to melt. I still have the old o2 sensor and was going to put it in to see if that makes any differeence. Should the motor put out black smoke or run bad when I disconnect the o2 sensor? If I get time tomorrow I will pull off the battery cable. Guess then I will take it for a drive and see what codes come up. Does anyone know what it would cost to get a scanner to plug into the truck to see if that can tell me more than just truning the key on and off? If its not too expensive what would be a good make to buy. Will have a look on ebay to see whats there. Thanks for your help so far.

Sounds identical to what I was going thru with my 5.2L, what wound up being my problem was the plenum gasket was leaking. The oil leaking thru the exhaust system clogged the CAT. The clogged CAT was throwing O2 sensor codes left and right. Fuel mileage was about 9mpg. Then it didnt want to accelerate or rev higher the 3000. Threw all sorts of misfire codes and TPS codes. I checked the TPS, IAC, MAP, O2, and fuel pressure. They all came out good for voltages etc.... Went to MIDAS and they did the exhaust pressure test and told me the CAT was clogged. They wanted $1900 to do the CAT. Did it myself in the driveway for $350 and a days worth of time! You being a mechanic, you know how to backprobe sensors with a volt meter and the Haynes manual gives you the acceptable ranges. Check those and look down the TB for oil. Mine was very obvious with oil. There is an upgraded plenum kit being sold aftermarket that is 1/4" thick aluminum piece to match the thickness of the intake manifold. I got the one without gaskets (didnt like the brand they were using in the with gaskets kit), but they did send new bolts. Not very hard to get the intake manifold off the 5.2! Took my father-in-law and I about 3 hrs to swap it out. Now my fuel mileage is back up to 15-16mpg. Does the base there have an auto hobby shop that you can use? If so, it will make the exhaust so much easier to do up on a lift!

At the moment we are having the coldest winter in something like 40 years coldest so far been (8F) and the weather people say its to get colder. Next thing the tractor won't start, I ill just have to pull it with my pick up.LOL Where are the tree huggers now to tell us its gobal warming. I am in the middle of the country and have only got about 1 inch of snow and if I go about 25 miles north they got about 4 inches yesterday, unfair or what. Ya I pulled off the neg cable for about 10 minutes and then took it for a drive and the same codes have come up again. I think I need a plenum gasket because when I changed my air filter I looked into the TB and it was covered with black crap inside, I was wonderind at the time what would cause that but now I know. I hope my cat is ok because I only put it on 6000 miles ago along with a new EGR after it got blown off from the last cat being blocked. If the plenum gasket is blown will the motor use alot of oil.

It's supposed to get to -10F here overnight tonight. But that is not really that uncommon here.
