4x4 different tire sizes
No one said it was stock, that's what I was asking. If it isn't stock, and has significant mods, then your point about stock gears being fine with 33's isn't even valid. There is definelty a point where you can overcome gears with engine mods. So unless you come clean on the specs of your truck, you really have nothing valid to contribute to this coversation because as far as we know we are talking apples and oranges.
Ya, I used to have an '84 Z-28 and also a '92 RS and I was in the low 12's with both of them. No way a 2nd gen stock truck ever keep up with either of them though unless it was a diesel.
Back to what the OP was asking as long as you run the tires on the same axle both of them on the back or front you should be fine, try to go as long as you can before getting tires, and dont use 4-wheel drive unless you absoluty need it.
He doesnt have to regear at all if he doesnt want to, but the smart thing would be to regear to keep the power close to stock but if he is already running 285/75/16 and switching to a 305/70/16 he wont notice that much loss in power from what he is accustomed to.

And his truck is stripped down to bare bones! Nothing but power in that truck. Are those numbers w his 408?
Sorry bud if I was going with 305 I would regear the tire will be the same high and wider.
Even with all the engine mods you are still losing low end with those 355 and 35's. That is just a fact. Nothing you can do to change simple physics. I have stock 355 and 35's and can burn the tires off of it... I have the trans rebuild receipt that goes along with it. My question is why all the money on engine mods but too cheap to change the gears?
and it wont if you do all four but if you have both sizes and use 4wheel drive on the road you can screw things up....all it takes is a dry section of road and your putting a massive amount of stress on things
geez that was a lot of replies to read, and after a lot of answers both ways, and off topicness, im still at a loss for what to do lol. i wasnt going to put the 305's on stock rims, i was going to get something, still undecided, and i will probably regear in the future. for now i think im just going to wait it out for a good deal on craigslist or the newspaper until i really need to change them. thanks for all the input
