Everything I read about it states that posi was just slang for chevys "positraction " the chevy term for Limited slip differential and ford had yet its own name for the same thing.... they all have limited slip capability to prevent hopping on turns....I googled it and read like 8 articles and forum threads on it at the time..

Yeah, the term "posi" has come to refer to any type of anti-spin differential. More of a marketing term than a mechanical one these days.

yes often mistaken for a closed differential which is where both wheels are always locked like one solid shaft

Last time I checked at my local NAPA, Royal Purple 75W-140 gear fluid was $17/quart. Compare that to Mobil 1 which costs $10/quart. I would be spending (for 3 quarts; truck takes 2.6) $51 plus the cost of gaskets vs. $30 for the Mobil 1. Prices of oils differ from parts stores and your region. But we can save that for another thread, this one is about LSD additives.
