shift between 2 hi and 4 hi while in Drive or Reverse at about any speed 0-50. this instantly engages the t-case, which switches a vac line that may or may not work, which is supposed to engage the CAD (which may or may not work), which is supposed to connect the split axle front axle.

the CAD should engage/disengage on the fly, but sometimes you have to be moving for the coupler to slide, and sometimes you have to stop and back up for it to disengage.

to shift between 4H and 2L you should be in drive, rolling along at 1-2-3 mph. shift it as fast and hard as you can, do not pause in neutral. if you pause, then its stuck out of gear, and will grind if you push on it. if this happens turn the truck off, finish the shift and then re-start it.

if an when you get tired of the vacuum cad, look into a posilok cable.

here's troubleshooting tips.
