Well, there is two of them actually. Which one are you looking for?

The main one that most people know about lies in the fuel tank itself as a coarse screen at the bottom of the pickup for the pump. The other is a finer filter that lies in the regulator atop the pump. This one very rarely fails though.

In case you were wondering, yes the tank must be dropped to get to the main filter. The one that you think to be blocked. I would assume though, that you are too late and the the pump is on its way out.

Just asking...why do you want to know where it is? if your having a fuel related issue, most likly the fuel pump is crappin the bed.which is not uncommon.

if you looking to replace the fuel filter, you should replace the whole pump while its out IMO

The one in the tank is not a filter, it's a strainer screen. At least the one in my truck is.I've never heard off or seen another one.

The pickup screen is not the filter. The actual filter is integral to the pump and is not serviceable.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm having trouble starting my truck, the only way I can get it to crank is my pressing the gas, if I take my foot off the accelerator the truck shuts off. I changed the spark plugs. I can get the truck to drive but, if I come to a stop the truck shuts off.

Have you checked the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor)?

I'd recommend grabbing a Haynes manual from the local auto parts store, and a multimeter, and start testing that and the other sensors on throttle body. Make sure its not a cheaper fix before dropping the tank and paying more $$$ for a pump.

The accelerator pedal has nothing to do with the fuel filter or fuel pump. If the filter were clogged or the pump not operating you wouldn't be able to start it at all. As was said, check the TPS and the IAC.

it is a crummy setup though having the filter in the pump...I went through a couple plugged filters in my jeep over the years (5 min fix) and never had an issue with the pump...

idle air control valve IAC on the back of the throttle body. $40-50 at local parts store, don't forget the o-ring.
