Default 4x4 blues

okay guys i'm at a loss with my 94 1500. i am having 4wd issues. the truck will go into 4wd but periodically it kicks out, then kicks back in a split second later. this causes a the truck to jerk and is happening at the front axle. i replaced the vacuum switch to no avail, my mechanic hooked up a vacuum pump to the lines and actuator and confirmed that they all held good pressure. i do not know where to go from here? anybody have a similar problem? any suggestions to what may be going wrong?
thanks alot!

A search would have led you to some good threads on the subject. Start with "No X4" just like that with the quotes.

I had all sorts of problems with my 4WD last winter. I took the vacuum actuator out, oiled it up really well, shot compressed air in each of the two vac ports to make sure it was working top notch. I Also changed my diff. fluid and put a new gasket in there, and checked over the vac lines running to the actuator. Now my 4WD kicks in and out with no problems at all. Before you could go down the road 1/2Km after taking it out of 4WD and the front axle was still engaged, but now, when you take it out, the light shuts off and the front axle is disengaged right away. It runs like brand new lol, only has 283,000Km lol.

Another thing you might want to check is the trans. mount if you have a 5spd ( I suppose auto too). Mine was so badly compressed and worn, it caused the front driveshaft to have alignment issues with the T-case, and getting in and out of 4WD was a real pain!

okay, i made a homemade posi-lock almost identical to this one: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/h...ite-up-595515/ and when i pull the cable, 4wd engages, however, the axle puts so much force on the fork that it kicks the cable back in, so much force that i have trouble holding onto it to keep it locked in. the coupler shouldnt be forced one way or another by anything but the fork, right? i've about had it with the thing, lol
