Transmission slips while in reverse...any fix ideas?
2001 Ram 1500 5.2 4x4
I recently noticed that when I have to back of up incline or over a uneven surface my transmission starts to slip, but by applying light throttle it sometimes is able to overcome the slippage and it seems to grab. This only happens in reverse and if I put the truck into 4X4 low I am back at full reverse power with no slippage occurring.
The truck had the transmission rebuilt 30,000 km ago so I don’t want to have to go that route again just yet.
Does anyone have any ideas on things that might remedy the problem?
I know that without a direct line of sight through the crystal globe into the tranny these things are pretty much a shot in the dark to diagnose but any input is appreciated

Check the fluid on level ground while hot in Neutral. Cycle it through all the gears, put in N and check after 60 seconds or more. That will give you a true fluid level. It must be driven for at least 15-20 miles or 20-30 minutes to get the fluid hot.
