Thanks for all the links, advice and options. I guess wjxavier is right about not needing the scanner for the obd1 but I read the link and it said that not all faults will set a code. If I have the scanner will it show something like that when there is no code set on the ecm.

 

i honestly dont think they make scanners for obd1 computers. the only ones i know of are ones that shops pay for, and they usually go for thousands of dollars and cover a BROAD range of computers. i seriously would just consider counting first instead of laying down money on something that probably isn't even going to work.
