OBD1 scanner. What is a ggod one.
I am looking at OBD1 scanners on ebay but not sure what one is suitable or will work for me. I will try to post a link of the ones I am looking at. Any ideas or if you have one that works for you. If possible I want to get one that will work on a 1994 and a 2001 Ram. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT
The one you are looking at will work for both year vehicles. But just as a preference, i own and would suggest the actron obd tester that also does both obd 1 and 2. Just make sure you check before purchasing. They have several different types. Probably be the more expensive one, no cheap way out on this one...
just bought an equus 3160 on amazon for 185 shipped.cant beat that with a bat.you will still have to get an obd1 cable, but thats cheap.you need obd 2 for anything after 95{or 96 for some makes}.Anyway, hella good tool.Have one at work, liked it so much bought one for home.First one I got on snap on truck.$$$.Next one on amazon, much cheaper.
If you have a laptop you may be interested in a usb type scantool. I just bought one from www.obdpros.com right before xmas and lovve it. With the right software on your comp it can be a powerful little tool. I have ProScan and like it so far....
the only downside is the lesser amount of portability, need to take a laptop out with ya, and the cables are a minor annoyance, but it's a tradeoff for the amount of things that can be done with a comp

I would go to JC Whitney. I picked up a scanner there that works on all domestic vehicles 2008 and below with an optional expansion pack to do imports for $350.
If you're just wanting to do your truck, I wouldn't spend too much. Just get something to read some codes since that's about all you really need. The data stream for monitoring the fuel mix and all is great, but not really needed either.

dunno about dodge, but on all the old obd1 gms you can short two pins out on the data connector and it'll flash the codes out on the check engine lights. Had to do this a million times with all my old camaros and berettas I had
This is the exact same one I picked up around Christmas time, only cheaper now. FML...
