Ya, read the fine print though. That's hwy miles, not city, and that is usually only on the 2wd, not the 4wd, and usually single cab short bed. Most trucks today that are equiped like mine was from the factory get about the same as mine did from the factory. That's another reason I want a diesel someday.

Why are you guys doggin down on this guy. He wants to know how to increase the fuel efficiency of his Dodge Ram. He doesnt want to buy a Prius or a moped, He wants to do it to his Ram. Its not a very easy task, you have to spend money to save money (in the long run). There are simple things that you can do to make your truck run better and even gain some performance and MPGs along the way.

Nate, in the overall scheme of things, 1-2 mpg improvement is going to do very little for this kid beyond drain his wallet of some serious cash that will take years to recoup. He says it costs him $5 a day in gas just to go back and forth to school. That's about 2 gallons of gas, so he's driving about 22-24 miles. That 1-2 mpg improvement will get him maybe that much more out of a full tank of gas saving him $5 a tank. Not too impressive when you consider it may take hundreds, even thousands, of dollars to get that mpg increase. If he's really that concerned with mileage then he needs an improvement on the order of 5-10 mpg and only a different vehicle will net him that.

If your referring to the airgap intake manifold, i've read thread after thread from those who have installed them, and that has never been anything i've ever read. I believe it is just a false advertising claim.

How can it not? You do realize that for a truck that weighs as much as ours do, that we need quite a bit of power to get them moving? More than one wise person has told me that the higher amounts of HP that your motor makes, the better your MPGs will be.
Now, any person with a brain knows that there is a fine line to that statement, so don't even think about that for your retort.

As for your 09 Z71? Pfft. We've got an 08 Avie with the 5.3 and mixed driving it sees about 16 MPG. When I'm driving it on the highway, it sees right at 20.

Settle down there newb, of all the things that were posted in this thread, I find it funny that you get offended by halfamil's (lame as it was) joke. I agree that there is always a "jerkoff" on every forum, but halfamil is far from it on this one.

Have you honestly done the math on what it will cost to drive your truck at 13mpg and at 16mpg? If you did, your going to see that it really isn't going to save you much at all. Plus you have to calculate in what it costs you in modifications to even try to get it to 16 to begin with.

If that small of a savings is all it is going to take to make your truck driveable for you, then try cutting out something else in your life and using that money for gas instead. You'll have far more savings that way. When gas got really expensive, I stopped eating out as much and buying soda's as often. The money I saved on that alone was way more then I would ever save trying get mpgs's with the truck, and it was good on my waistline too.
