Default Air filter Housing

Anyone know which engines the air filter box/housing is interchangeble with? My stock housing is missing some bits of plastic around the bottom where it connects to the TB. Not a good thing! When looking around the junk yards and CL it would be nice to know which engines would fit which. Mine is the 360 non-magnum. Soon I hope to replace with cold-air intake, but for now I've prefer not to suck in unfiltered air.

Get a 14x3 round filter. I tested tons of CAI's and filters, and the round filter design delivered the best throttle response and mpg's.

Parts list or link to a list of what I will need to convert from stock to 14x3? Will the 14x3 fit with out modifications? Other than shorter travel for intake air, why would the 14x3 perform better than a cold-air setup with a cone filter. Wouldn't the larger surface area of the cone filter allow for better air flow?

TIA.

There are extensive posts on here on how and why to do it. Check the DIY at the top of the 2nd gen page. The answer to your question air volume. Even though a cone filter might have more surface area, the air has a lot farther to travel to enter the intake, and that includes turns and bends. With the round filter, you have air immediatly into the TB.

Thanks Silver

011500-- I didn't start the the round 14x3 filter discussion, I asked if any of the air housings on the 360 would fit any 360. Most in the junk yard are $45 - $75 for a replacement. Found one a few hours away on CL for $15, but was for a Magnum. Before I checked to see if it was still available wanted to know if it would fit. You don't like the subject matter of a post don't read the damn thing.

360Mag--- I've read on other sites that the 3" did cause some problems unless you had the 1/2" drop, or something like that. The highest that would fit stock was reported to be 2.5"? Hitting the plastic wiper assembly? Maybe it was on the Mag versions that had the 2.5" restriction. I don't know.

Thanks again. I'll see about getting teh 14x3 and other goods and install the thing so I don't suck in a bunch of crud.

wait, how can your engine not be a magnum??

as far as the 14x3 goes, i have an edelbrock with a drop base and a half inch carb spacer (yes, it works with the TB, same diameter) and it fits just fine, a little tight getting the lid on, but not too bad

I'm not a gear head. You couldn't tell?
My truck does not say Magnum on the side. Now that I think about it the air tube does says magnum on it. I think. That being said, when I see an add, "Dodge 360 Magnum Air housing" I'm not sure if THAT is what I have. If it doesn't require an arsenal of special tools or equipment I can fix it, if I can find the problem to begin with. But that is about as far as it goes. Dana 60...um, ok. 4.10 vs. 3.55, yeah sure, what ever you say.

So, there is only one 5.9L 360 for the 94-01 1500's and it's a magnum whether it says so or not, huh?

edit: But I can promise you this; I will be memorizing the topics covered in the FAQ, or at least familiarizing myself with the list. No point adding to the plethora of repeat questions, huh? Besides, looks to be quite a bit of kewl info on that post.
