Generator/Alternator ID?
Does anyone know how to identify what generator/alternator is in your truck? I have a 2001 1500, and according to the FSM, it could be one of 4 options... Denso or Bosch, and two different output levels.
Is there any difference between these? I'm looking to order a new pulley from Kilby to finish up my OBA - and I'm not sure WTF is in this truck. I don't even see a id plate...
I submitted for a build sheet, but I don't think that is going to tell me which vendor of generator/alternator is in there... just the output range.
Blah!
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Cartman

Alright... I finally stopped being a diptard, and looked around with a mirror and flashlight. Was able to find a "BOSCH" on the id tag.
Time to order some parts. I have a york 210 waiting to go in.

Go to your Chrysler/Dodge dealer (if you still have one left in your town - LOL) with your VIN number. Their parts guy can "run the VIN" and tell you EXACTLY what Brand and what Amperage alternator your truck came with and is supposed to have! They can even give you a COPY of your build sheet if you ask for it. (I'd definitely ask!) Pretty cool 'eh?
Oh yeah, and go look at it. There is always some sort of tag or stamped numbers in the casing.
Secondly, Bosch alternators and NipponDenso alternators look obviously different.
Also, casing/housing diameters will dictate which amperage alternator you have as well. Larger case = larger amperage output.
Simple.

You need to, click on the user cp at the top of the page and fill out your truck info. and signature. You will get many more replys to a question.284 posts and still no truck info. "Pittyful" as Jed Clampett would say.
