Ok then! Go with the Amsoil. You will need 2 litres of it. Originally Posted by quackaddict

Makes sense, I have heard very good things about the Amsoil as well as far as the Royal Purple I have no experience so I can't comment.Originally Posted by PurplDodge

Record Breaker
Pennzoil syncrhomesh is everywhere around here...
Be advised you need a 17mm allen for the fill and drain plugs...
And a bad clutch hydro system will affect forward and reverse gears, but the ones with better syncrhos will go in gear easier.. Th first gear syncrho is usually in the worst shape since it is used and abused the most..
Also FWIW I fill mine to 3qts, just my personal preference.

Since we hit 36f today and I'm headed for grouse country next weekend I figured today was as good as any to replace the NV3500 fluid. Since there was an AMSOil dealer a few miles away and I couldn't find any Syncromesh on the retail shelves I went with the AMSOil Syncromesh 5w30.
First things first. Find a 17mm behemoth allen wrench. Sears was the only place I was able to find this monster. (I think it would make a good billy club). There was no way I was going to remove the drain plug until I had the refill plug off. That would be a NIGHTMARE! But alas, 17mm doesn't fit my fill plug. Luckily Ace Hardware had a 5/8" that works just fine for the fill plug.
While I was there I picked up 6 feet of 1/2 ID clear tubing, but only needed about 4 and it was still a bit long. Located the liquid thread sealant, grabbed the tarp (drive way is flooded
) and went to work.
The transmission now shifts much better, not perfect, 1st is still a big sluggish after coming to a stop. But 2nd no longer growls at me, 5th no longer wants to hang when coming off the highway. I also no long have a herky jerky thing when letting off the gas when tooling around town.
In a few weeks I'll replace the "flushing" fluid and jack up the back end to see if I can eak out another .1 liters.
But it feels so much better.
