Like said before, you need to change out to 4.88s if you want close to stock. And also, even with 4.10s you need to change out your differential carrier.
well i got off the phone with drivetrain specialists and there sayine like 250 for rear gears and 350 for front gears now that 4.10s i just wanted a ball park still dont no if im gonna go with the 4.56s or not do those prices seem alittle cheap
That's just for parts, labor is what costs so much. Unless you know exactly what you're doing and you have all the specialty tools for installing new gears, you need to get it done professionally.
i have 373 gears in it now and its not all that bad i do agree i need to change my gears but i dont want to get crazy torque just make it simalar to stock it dosnt bog right now i can go threw mud holes and have no prob like i said just wanted alittle more power without spending 2 grand on gears, and shell get tire in first if i stop on it (1 wheel only haha) and smaller tires are not an option im thinkin 4.10s but u guys are the pros so maybe il go with 4.56s is there any websites that most of u get ur gears at.
Its like this...if you dont spend the $1200-1600 it really cost to regear at a reasonable shop now you will be spending twice that much in the next couple years on repairs because of it due to the extra strain and wear and tear its going to put on your whole drive train..(your operating outside your engine/trannies optimum powerband)...its like trying to start out in third gear you are losing waaay more power than you realize with that setup....if you dont believe me try finding a decent comparable stock ram to test drive to compare...
and if your gonna be offroading in that thing you better start saving for wheel bearings....the 1500 axles wear them out very fast with any tire over 35" and most upgrade to heavier axles with that size tire...

y would i need a new carrier for 4.10s if thats a stock option, and i do have the tools 2 do it myself and backlash specs and torque specs for the cruch collar and all that good stuff. ive changed gears b4 so im not to worried about that

well the gears arent very much its the labor thats the killer...and its kind of a skill to learn to do it right so it holds up.. lowest stock option I know of in 1500 axles were the 3.92 BTW it just cost me $900 to have my rear axle rebuild along with my LSD because the the guy who installed the 4.56 gears for po did a bad job.
u might b right but i could of swore 4.10s were, then in the 3rd gen they got rid of the 4.10s but like i said y a new carrier? and ive prob done 5 rear ends all dodge dakota and such i worked at a dodge dealership for 3 yeas threw co-op so i have all the info like i said and im not the least bite worried about the install

maybe it was the 2500 or 3500 series with maybe the cummings that used 4.10?....thats what I think anyway. and it should be a cheap install for you then....remember to check if you have a factory LSD in there since you might as well get the posi working again with a rebuild clutchpack kit
