I could buy a new gasket set, comes with every gasket involved when taking a motor apart.

Could get a new rotating kit. Comes with all new pitons, ring, crank and all.( somewhere around $1300)

Or a 408 stroker kit. comes with bigger pistons, rings, cranks and all the goods( $1700)

Now i am leaning towards rebuilding the motor, but just new gaskets on everything would get the motor running, as long as i didnt mess up a piston.

But would a 408 stroker kit really be worth the extra 500 bucks in parts and idk like 1000 to get the block bored out bigger.

Now i plan on keeping the truck as a toy since i got a 08.. The motor has a K&N air filter system, Fastmans 52, Hughes air-gap, and 1.7 RRs. Its got 5 inch lift and 35s. I blew the head gasket or cracked the head but wont be able to tell until i take it apart. Im not going to rush through anything and its going to be a project on weekends and free time.
Just wondering how many miles are on the engine and if there is something wrong with it ?

Stroke it to 408ci. and have your stock heads ported and polished, or save the money and do it yourself. Just my $.02

as sexy as a 408 stoker kit sounds, be aware that if not included, you'll need PCM tuning, injectors too. so that could add a lot more money. then you'll twist the transmission and tcase out of it.

i'd just rebuild it stock with new heads. boring and new parts only as needed.
probably a new stock cam.

I would tear down your existing motor first and see what ya got then go from there. It will give you time to help decide and you can see what you are working with.

After i put on my Hughes FI airgap intake manifold i was driving it and testing it and i blew a radiator hose which caused the motor to quickly over heat.

I dont think i cracked the block but can get one for free if i need it anyways. But i think i blew the head gasket and/or cracked the head.

If i cracked the head i think i will get the new heads since i will need them anyways.

If the heads are good an i keep getting 50 hours at work i might do the 408 stroker.

Because of the bad heads i lost vacuum pressure and the coolant and oil started to mix but i drove it no more than 50 - 100 feet and its been messed up ever since and not driven.

If it was able to mess the pistons up in that quick of a time i will have to buy a rebuild kit and if that is the case i will get the 408 since it is only like 500 bucks more. i have to pay for getting the block done but id rather not pay for a rebuild kit and then a 408 laters.
