rebuilding motor need opinion on what to do and use
so as some of you may no i am going to be taking out my motor soon(just got my engine hoist today) I can not make my mind up on what i want to do yet on how i want to rebuild it there are 3 choices in all really but what do you guys think.
I could buy a new gasket set, comes with every gasket involved when taking a motor apart.
Could get a new rotating kit. Comes with all new pitons, ring, crank and all.( somewhere around $1300)
Or a 408 stroker kit. comes with bigger pistons, rings, cranks and all the goods( $1700)
Now i am leaning towards rebuilding the motor, but just new gaskets on everything would get the motor running, as long as i didnt mess up a piston.
But would a 408 stroker kit really be worth the extra 500 bucks in parts and idk like 1000 to get the block bored out bigger.
Now i plan on keeping the truck as a toy since i got a 08.. The motor has a K&N air filter system, Fastmans 52, Hughes air-gap, and 1.7 RRs. Its got 5 inch lift and 35s. I blew the head gasket or cracked the head but wont be able to tell until i take it apart. Im not going to rush through anything and its going to be a project on weekends and free time.

If I was going to do it, I'd buy the new rotating assembley. You can also bore it out to make the 360 a 365. I think BlueBeast did this The bottom ends on these trucks are nothing to worry about. Then I would get some 2.02 Hughes Iron Ram heads and a KRC Performance towing camshaft and Harland Sharp 1:6 roller rockers. Then I'd top it off with a modified kegger and a F&B throttle body. But thats my motor. I see you already have a FI Airgap and 1.7 RRs.
What would be the reason for me getting 1.6s if that is the stock ratio?
And why would the New heads be so good? they are like 1100 bucks!!
I dont think i want to be paying up to 5 grand right now due to new truck and might go back to school. but i would do all the work and was told by someone on here that it would cost about 1000 dollars to get to block machined then the 1700 for the 408 kit so 2700 wouldnt be so bad but that is just the 408 kit then i need all new gaskets and stuff

IDK about the 1.6 rockers. If you are getting a bigger cam like the KRC 206 or 210X I think that the 1.7 rockers would have too much lift. I would talk to John Mercedes or KRC about that.
The point behind the heads and cam is, you might be stroking out the motor to either 365 or 408. You already have a upgraded intake manifold and not to get some higher flowing heads while you are doing this may hurt you. Its your call.
New Hughes 1.92 Iron Rams are $800. They flow much better than the stock Magnum heads and are not prone to cracking
That is true. might just go with them. But you did say 2.02 so them are 1100 so i wasnt sure.
