Yes, the high flow will have less restriction, which is better, IMHO. I would get whatever size will fit your system, so you don't have to reduce or enlarge anything.

MagnaFlow also makes a direct fit high flow cat.I installed one on my truck, and it works very well.

most universal cats are single in/single out....Ours are dual in directly from header pipe or manifold and single out....you can do some cutting and use a ypipe but welding is reqiured and o2 sensor mounts need to be relocated...ebay is the cheapest I've seen for bolt in high flow replacements myself...

I got mine from Summitt a long time ago.Installed by myself, with no welding required. They have went up several Obama Dollars since then.

This is the one I have on my truck:

Very good built catalytic converter. Made of stainless steel. And pretty easy to put in, just cut the old one out and bolt the new one in. Noticed more torque and a much nicer exhaust note. Make sure you get some good stainless steel clamps, too.

Also, put in a new pre-cat exhaust sensor:

I have Magnaflow part # 94037, though I have read about others running 94057. I'm on my second one because the first one broke apart after a rough trail ride. The only reason I replaced it with the same one was because Magnaflow stood behind it and paid for my second one. Had they not done that, I would have been looking for somthing else. FYI, i'm not the only one who has had it break apart after some rough off-roading.

It makes a difference! Exhaust tone is a little more aggressive as well.

this is the one i'm about to get http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-94006/
and they also have a 3" http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MPE-94109/

now augiedoggy has a 96 and his has 2 in and 1 out. my sisters 99 also has 2 in and one out with the o2 sensor in the cat. my 2000 has 1 in and 1 out with the o2 sensor in the pipe, a couple inches north of the cat, so your 2001 is probably the same as mine.

i know the cat is 2.5" out and i believe it is something like 3" on the in side. the exhaust shop up the street said that they would just make an adapter for the in side and only charge 60$ to weld it on for me, so i'm still making out better than if i were to buy a direct fit by having the universal installed at a shop.

if you are going to get a universal then you should get it from summit because it is 27$ cheaper than jegs. i'm not sure about shipping but jegs has a 13$ handling charge and that makes the cat you are looking at 107$.
on summit, the handling charge is 10$ and shipping is included if you have it shipped by the standard ground shipping.

My original cat did that, with no offroading what so ever. When I got it off, the guts dumped out in a pile, on the driveway. The replacment cat I got at Summitt, has gone up $52 since then.
