Ok,,, got everything off and ready to install... one problem though...... the smaller of the 3 hoses, it is the metal on that goes into the pump then has the rubber one that runs back into the firewall...... how do you get that out of the old waterpump so i can put it in the new one?

thanks
Jake

the small metal tube about 1in diameter sticking out is called the heater pipe.
there's a clamp that holds the pipe to the block (or something). remove it.
then just pull/twist the pipe out. it has an o-ring at the bottom.
be sure and clean the pipe and put on a new o-ring.
there should be a new one with the waterpump.
lube the new o-ring with oil or vaseline.

inspect that heater pipe carefully.
some people report it to be rotten from corrosion, and have to replace it.

+ 1 on this dh, I tried to reuse it when replacing my WP and could never stop it from leaking. New one worked great the first try!

thanks guys. got it out and installed new O-ring. Project done. Good news. up and running no leaks. Bad News.... the squeal is still there. Not a waste of money though, that bearing was pretty shot and without the belt, there was a good wobble on it. Next up: I think i will follow the sugestions in the first few posts. More than most the Alternator. Now that looks way simple compared to the water pump.

thanks to eveyone for the help...

Jake

congrats. and something to think about -

i have a theory -

loose water pumps can leak coolant out from around that seal.
coolant will saturate a belt, and ruin it.

you said in your first post that a new belt solved your problem for a couple of days, and then the squeak came back.

its very possible that your bad water pump leaked fluid all over your new belt and ruined it.

this might be a waste of money, but before blindly replacing any expensive parts, you might try another new belt. if you get the belt at autozone or advance or somewhere like that that accepts returns - and if you keep all the packaging clean and brand new, and only run the new belt for a minute or two - you could likely return it if it doesn't stop the squeak. just make up a story like - my wife also bought one today and i don't need two. provided you keep it looking like it was never used - then worst case is they'll give you a store credit return.

A/C clutch ruled out? If you have one. Does it squeal when you have the Defrost on, off or don't matter. Of course mine didn't squeal till it gave out and then it seized up two weeks later. I'm not sure, but blowing it out with compressed air maybe made if fail a lot sooner. lol

Well... never had a problem with the water pump leaking (or at least no where around the area ever looked wet and the coolant level was not low by any means. The reason i suspected the pump in the second place was because once i removed the belt and did some pulley inspecting,, the fan was wobbling like crazy... So i "assumed" that the bearing must be shot causing the squealing, of couse NOW i know better. My first repair was a new belt, so this belt is not really a full week old. Like today,, after i got eveything cleaned up and started the truck to finish topping off the coolant system, i was stoked because there was no squeal, then slowly, you could hear it building up, by the time the heater kicked open and i was done filling the radiator,, the full force of the squeal was back.... Your right though, before i dump a new alternator in it, i am going to do some more troubleshooting... a new alt is a bit more pricey than the water pump was.

the AC cluch? it squeals no matter what position the blower is in..... AC running or not...

Let me ask you all this. to check the alternator with out replacing it (first).... how about i take it to autozone, have them hook it up to their checker.... i've never seen the checker before. but, does it spin the alternator in order to check performance???

if it spins up and starts squealing,,, Bam! im right there to turn in the core and get a new one.

I dont know i was just thinking about it. sure would beat blindly buying a new one. I am just not familiar with the alternator tester they use..

let me know what you think..

thanks
jake

yes, an autozone test will spin it up and measure output.
^ good idea.
