Unhappy Starts, runs 3 min, stalls, sits 30 min, same problem

My 96 Ram 1500, 2wd 3.9l 6cyl. Starts fine, works for 2-3 minutes, loses power, stalls, won't start for 30 min, will run again for the same thing. No fault codes. Tried new o2 sensors, filled with new gasoline, can hear fuel pump running... thinking that a clogged fuel filter wont let it run full force for that long... leaving it sitting at idle gives same result...
The problem is so consistant, not sure what to do???

could be a clogged CAT....when you change the upstream 02 sensor did it "relieve pressure" when taken out? thats a sign of a clogged CAT.

The fuel pump may be kicking out...

We had a 2500 5.9L in our shop, and itwas doing the same thing as your, and it turned out t be fuel pump/ fuel pump relay

Do yourself a favor and see if you are getting spark after the engine stalls and won't restart. Pull a wire off a spark plug, toss in an extra plug into the wire. put the plug close to the engine block and have a friend crank to see if you can see the spark jumping. (haha be sure to hold the wire boot, and a pair of gloves wouldn't hurt either) By doing the above test, you are ruling out the ignition coil.

If you have spark, keep looking for a solution
If you do not have spark, replace ignition coil and report back.

^YES thats the proper way to do it.....

and you best bet would be the spark test first, then drop the tank.

try replaced the fuel pump relay with somethin else under the hood. its a big black fuse. switch it with the other black ones and see if it happens again...if so, its time to drop the tank...this will eliminate the relay.

Hahaha nice. I have had coils heat up before and then quit working. Then when it cools down it will work for a while. In fact, my dads car suffers from heat soak on the starter solenoid which does the same thing... let it cool down then the solenoid would work again (chevys... :/) Anyway back to your problem. Before you go dropping the tank, you can check for fuel pressure by using the shrader valve on the drivers side fuel rail. You can get a gauge to check the pressure or you can simply check to see that fuel is getting there by pushing down on the pin (watch your eyes).
