We are replacing the radiator on my dodge 1998 1500 ram, and we have ran into a problem. the radiator seems to have a factory made mech with a hose where the transmisson goes into it and we cant seem to get the damn thing off so we can figure out wtf to do with it on the new radiator. if you guys have any suggestions plz let me know. ill post some pics of the problem as well.

new radiator with the slot where the hose from the old one needs to hook up. but how do we get the hose off the old one on to this? or do we need to just get a hose fitted and ghetto clamp it on?

 

you you fuel line disconnect tools, they also work with a/c lines.....you can get a cheap set at any parts store

yep^^^ i would also suggest the tranny cooler check valve delete while you're there working in the area....

 

a pair of screw drivers does the same thing... but you have to be good... those tools also work on a/c lines,, and they are cheap enough..

 

on mine it has a metal line, then up to the radiator it has the second pic sprout and a 3 inch rubber line on it with a fuel line clamp.

My radiator had a metal line that went to the top, rubber to bottom

AC or Fuel Line disconnect tool, 3/8" size.

if/when you disconnect the quick connect fitting, it'll have a little bell on the radiator end. if you reuse those hoses, you may have to move the "bell end" fittings to the new rad. on the other hand, if the old rubber hoses are dry rotted, leaking, or about to fail, you can replace those rubber sections with 3/8" transmission hose and clamps, and it'll work fine, and you'd use the standard "barb" fittings instead of the "bells". just be sure it says painted on it - transmission hose. its about $3/ft.

i'd cut all that **** out, including the check valve.
