Default Really bad performance, clicking sound

OK, 99 Sport, 5.2L. I just drove it on the highway for the 1st time in a while and let me tell you it was painful. I want to run this stuff by you guys and see if it is normal.

Pretty hilly terrain, going around 70 on flats was doable, the second I hit a grade I dropped to 3rd and rpms to 3K ish. Speed struggled to stay around 55-60 even going up hill. The clicking noise from my engine is getting worse, it's really loud now and if you read any of my other posts it's tough to diagnose as it doesn't do it while idling. I went 160miles on $40 of fuel, that seems pretty bad as well.

Anyway this clicking stuff is KILLING ME. There was also a point during the trip when the OD OFF light came on and wouldn't go off until I got off the highway, that scared me as well. I don't know if this is normal or what having never had this truck before. It REALLY struggles on the highway. Not that I am going to drive it on the highway a lot, but still, I really wish it didn't sound like an insurgent walking into the UN...

Thoughts?

air/fuel ratios change in elevations, and can create power loss/bogging with alot of shifting in the trans. Could also causing pinging

happened to my dads Ram everytimewe went through the hilly terrain when we went camping...it would set the 02 sensor off cuz it was running lean due to the changes

try running super in it, and going through that terrain again to see the difference

over drive will turn itself off if the transmission overheats and you can't force it to activate again, all you can do is wait until it cools off.

i had that happen on the ride home from the dealer when i bought my truck and it turned out to be a bad torque converter.

what size tires do you have? the fuel injectors have a rhythmic ticking that you can hear pretty good when you are doing 65mph and hit an incline just before it downshifts. that is if your tires are larger than stock and you didn't get lower gears for the differentials.

Use the user cp function at the top of the page and put all the info you can think of about your truck(make, model, year, engine, etc.) You'll get alot more replys.Nobody will have to look at your first post to know what you have, and you won't have to type it when you start a new thread. Your problem could be a number of things. Tire size and weight are just a few items that can contribute to loss of power. With the miles on the truck your talking about it is very likely the plenum gasket is leaking.

I know the plenum, god damn thing. I haven't replaced it, and it's the winter, and I don't have shelter right now. Perhaps I'll deal with it in the spring. The truck does run well, but MAN O MAN this clicking. It ONLY started when I did a plugs and wires.

If that's when it started, the install is your problem.

Yep. I'm thinking crossed wires/touching wires that's causing interference. Also could be a clogged cat.
