it can take up to 100 miles for the computer monitors to record enough data to be "ready".

welcome to DF.

high way mileage at 60-65 for 70 miles from rest mode. no cruse control minimal braking if at all possable. being that its a 2001 you will only need to get all but 2 in ready status to pass inspection. we have been doing in by lifting the rear tires and running the truck but we also have the computer hooked up so we can monitor readyt status. i have found that all dodge truck with the 5.2 or 5.9 is about 70 miles after resetting the codes. if the light comes on then its fixed its only able 35 to 40.

Thanks, it worked! Computer was ready , and passed test. My husband waited for rush hour traffic to ease up. Then took it out for a drive just under 70 miles on the highway (33 out and 33 back) State was holding registration renewal in limbo without testing first. What a relief to finally pass. No rejection. Thank You again!

The EVAP takes the longest, Here you can have one not ready and still pass. I have to cheat that way every year because of a small leak I can't find in my EVAP system.

I went through the emissions test today. Even though my 97 has the OBDII fixture, they made me do the spin test. Turns out the 3/4 ton is required to pass actual exhaust tests. LOL Good thing I had the O2 replaced and the radiator replaced. It might not have passed otherwise.

I would like to know how you do this because i have an 03 2500 that does the same thing. I've heard it could be as easy to fix as getting a new gas cap but if its not there are a bunch of things it could be and i dont want to be sending alot of money on a ridiculous thing that isn't even a problem. I lived in iowa my whole life and moved out to DC suburbs and I hate it here. Its amazing how other states have managed to go on without having a test that says their gas cap has a tiny amount of fumes coming out.

For around a hundred dollars the dealership will smoke test your evap system. That would narrow down the possibilities. I hate having my CEL on but money is kind of tight. I erase the code and then drive about 25 miles hoping the light doesnt come back on. They did make me replace my gas cap last time, but that did not fix my code problem
