Water Pump Replacement

Default Water Pump Replacement

Hey guys so my '98 Ram 1500 needs a water pump replacement and was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do i myself?

its a very easy job.

#1 buy a haynes or Chilton repair manual

Disconnect battery

take off the belt

take out top coolant hose

take out fan shround and resivoirs on them.

take out the alt. and a/c leave them on the bracket for they can come out in one piece, just undo all the connections.

take out idler pulley

take out the bolts around the water pump..

clean everything real good.

get a new bypass hose/thermostat

to separate the fan from the pump, that may be te tricky part. but pay attention, some of them are reverse threaded.

reverse for install.




you might want to look at it closer, it could be the timing cover gasket, and since your going that far in, you might as well do the chain.

Haha ok I think I should take this job to my cousin who knows what he's doing.I am new to the whole mechanic scene and am still learning slowly.
