Default buddies running problem again

ok i posted before about my buddies ram running rough (96 5.2 2wd 1500)

well he had a GEN light on, so i told him battery. He replaced it to have the same problems.

Replaced alternator- same problem

found a corroded ground, fixed it and it ran fine for 2 days, now its running rough again. all grounds are clean.

He told me today he has to now keep on the gas or it just dies. cant start it without foot on gas.

I thought fuel pump...are these the symptoms?

Maybe IAC?

also after he replaced battery, the GEN never came back on. and the truck is not throwing a CEL.

Clogged Egr valve ? even though that doesnt have anything to do with the amp light coming on. did he check all the fuses and such under the hood ? could be a Maf sensor

there is no MAF sensor, its a MAP sensor on these...but that wouldnt make it so you had to keep on the gas to keep it going would it?

it sucks...he lives 5 hours away, and is my best friend. i know if i were there looking at it, id be able to diagnose it, but im doing this all over the phone lol

Yep, sure same thing with a clogged Egr. it's the same exact thing that happend to my jimmy, it wouldn run unless i had the throttle down and ended up pulling the egr off and cleaning it out and it ran fine untill i wraped it around a tree

he DOES have a bad plenum...enough to where part of his air filter was covered in oil, and pools in TB (when i checked it 3 months ago...was my dads truck)

and the plenum can clog that up....alright ill tell him to look into that....hes not a mechanic so its going to be hard directing him how to do it over the phone lol

it has 119K BTW

Also the reason the amp light came on could possibly be because the engine was dragging and not turning the alt fast enough, usually if the engine drag's even though it starts off the battery, if the engine isnt turning fast enough to pull the volts off the alt it will try and stall out everytime and cause the amp light to come on

Edit: Egr's arent hard at all to do on our trucks, they'er actually kinda easy compaird to what iv seen in the past. Now on a vortec chevy it's a royal pain in the ***

try the egr first, if that doesnt fix it then it's prolly either going to be something to do with the fuel system or plenum. does he have access to a fuel pressure tester?
