with the lights it is flash - "oh, i guess i should back off a little bit"
with a brake check its smash - "man, how am i going to pay for all this body/suspension work"

i almost made a guy lose it one time because i brake checked him. but he was really asking for it. i was in the right lane and as a truck passed in the left lane i hopped over and floored it to get up to his speed. after i got over i stayed right behind that truck and the suv that was about 6 car lengths back came barreling down on me and started flashing his lights and did a couple wheel jerks like he thought i was going to respond to his aggressive driving or something. well i gave the brake pedal a "bite the curb" type of stomp and he almost lost it in the ditch, then swerved into the other lane then got right back on top of me. so i sped up to about 70 (in a 55 coming up on a 35 zone) then when i was coming up on a car in the right lane, i hopped over and nailed the brakes to let that guy pass by fast enough to not catch any flying bullets as he did.
so i believe the lights are a safer way of letting someone know that you ain't happy with how close they are.
also, i only do it on back roads and the highway when it is light (most of the time around here) to moderate traffic. if i am out in fayetteville or raleigh (big cities) then tailgating isn't really an issue because of the low speeds and heavy traffic.

you could always do what a friend of mine does when someone is riding too close. he just stops casually as you do when you come up on a stop sign. then when they go to pass him, he puts the hammer down.

People tend to stay off the back of my truck regardless. With my tire carrier sitting directly at eye level I think people tend to see that if they go into the back of me, that's going straight through their windshield.

I can see both sides... I have back-up lights that I flash if someone is tailing too close as well.. but they aren't that harsh LED light... I also do the rolling stop type thing because it pisses them off even more

Not a problem. The Borla headers and the K&N CAI both have CARB exemption IDs. I welded the ID plate for the headers to the passenger side so the technician can't miss it. Why do you ask?
