Tranny temp
Since dodge trannies become more problematic as they age, I'd recommend a guage. It's a cheap way of monitoring your tranny and I think you'll be suprised how your tranny acts heat wise in even mundane driving situations.
It may even scare you. It still makes me nervous at times.

The trans temp warning light comes on 275. That's at the servo, so temps inside the trans are probably far higher. Considering the operating range is 195-210, by time the light comes on, it really is too late. Even if you get temps back down, the fluid integrity has already been compromised, which means it may no longer cool or lubricate as effectively as it is supposed to. This makes it easier to overheat the next time, and means your parts are being damaged because the fluid is no longer doing its job.
Best thing you can do is get your temps back down as soon as you see the light come on (so you don't fry your tranny completely), and then change your trans fluid as soon as you can. Do not continue to use the same fluid after it has been overheated.
I think everyone should have a temp gauge, whether they tow or not. Monitoring your trans is just as important as monitoring your engine temp.
