Default Question about overdrive

Is it hard on these trannys to drive without the OD on a regular basis?

As soon as I get in the truck, I turn the OD off, up to around 80-90 km/h(50-55 mph). It run's around 2-2200 rpm usually when I'm goin. If I'm on a highway or just cruisin along above those speeds, I always switch it back on. I don't like how these trucks hunt for gears, and shift into OD waaayy to early and just chug along. Plus, it sounds pretty badass (read: loud and obnoxious) at ~2grand, so that's a benefit . I've been doing it for close to a year now probably and no issues yet.

am I the only one that does this?

i used to do the same thing. as soon as i started the truck, i'd turn off OD. it doesn't hurt it, in fact the truck runs much better at 45-55 with OD off, instead of lugging along at low rpm. i found that if the rpm's didn't stay up above around 1800-2000, then truck just lugged along.

and then i got a superchips.... it changed my OD shift so it doesn't kick in till about 55. now i hardly ever have to touch the OD button.

edit - in think? i read somewhere that the shift into OD at that low speed of 40-45 might have been reprogrammed out in a dodge pcm software update. but i don't know for sure. i'll see if i can find it.

this might be it

This is exactly why I like my superchips programer so much. It prevents torque converter lockup until 52 mph, instead of 40mph. I always hated how my truck lost ALL power as soon as I hit 40.

I pretty much keep my OD off until i'm on the highway and cruising. Sometime i'll let it stay on around town if i'm just really taking it easy, but I hate having it shift in and out out of OD needlessly, so I just shut it off pretty much all the time.

well I'm glad I'm not alone at least haha.... any time I'm below highway speeds I have it off.
