Default Poor Performance

I have a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Laramie Club Cab. It has the stock 318 with a drop in K&N filter, Iridium Plugs, Borg Warner 7mm Wires, a 2.5 in Magnaflow Cat Back to dual 45' 4 Inch tips, Amsoil 10W-30, Monroe Reflex shocks, and BFG tires. It just hit 100,000 Miles and it seems like the sucker is still slow as hell. I havent done anything to the drivetrain, and Id hate to have to tear the motor down just for performance but i hate punching it on the highway and getting nothing... any help? Im in the military and I dont have much to spend, but i am coming back from Iraq with about $1000 to spend on it.

Sounds like your Plenum is blown. Do a search for it. If it hasnt been changed, its blown.

Welcome to DodgeForum!

First of all, you need to check to see if your intake manifold has a leak in the plenum pan. The leak lets oil into your intake, reduces power greatly, and hurts a lot of engine components. You can check for oil by taking the airbox off and looking down your throttle body for oil inside your intake manifold. You will need a flashlight, and maybe a mirror.
Search through this forum for tons more info on this subject, but feel free to ask anything.

What size tires do you have? Big tires rob power.

When's the last time you've done a tuneup? Distributor cap, rotor, spark plug wires, and spark plugs?

i would say maybe since its a 2000 , you may have death flash, and if the intake plenum is leaking thats a double whammy!!

Was this only a problem on the 318? I have the 360 and it's not the most impressive engine I've owned.

Hello From what I understand all 2nd gen Rams will have or have had the blown plenum. Ive got a 96 with the 360 and it has no problems right now, but I ordered the parts to fix it anyhow. Any chance your cat could be plugged? Reason Im asking is mine was plugged and she was a gutless wonder.

It's on both the 318 and 360's. You also have to note that it's a truck not a sports car so the git up and go is not gonna be impressive. I have a 2000 5.9 with no issues yet and the performance does lack, but again it's a truck.

I havent changed the cap and rotor, but maybe my plenum is blown. I just hit over 100k. What is the Death Flash? and I dont think my cat is clogged, i just put a Magnaflow 3 in cat back on and its flowin alot better
