Default Steering shaft rattle

Hi all,
In the last week or so my '99 4wd half ton has developed a rattle in the steering shaft. I was hoping that replacing the track bar bushings and wheel bearings would take care of this, but it didn't help.

It seems that the steering shaft has a loose connection where it enters the gear box. I can move it up and down about 1/8" near the gear box. It makes a very annoying rattling sound when I go over bumps and I can feel it a little bit in the wheel. The steering shaft was replaced by the dealer when I bought the truck about a year ago.

Is this something that can be fixed? Or do I need a new gear box? Thanks.

Not too hard to replace either, about 2 hours worth of work if even that.
