Hello,over the last 2 days I have read every post on transmissions in this forum.My guestion is what year transmissions will interchange with a1997 1500? the salvage yards all say 97 only, but I looked at a 1996 and all the plugs and numbers on the tail shaft are the same. The only difference I see are the numbers on the top of the bell housing.mine are 064-5 the 96 are 064-2 any help will be greatly apreciated thanks

 

I highly doubt that lol, theres like 5 tranny threads per day


94, 95, and some 96's have the 46RH (mechanical) tranny, some 96's and 97-up all have 46RE's (electrical) tranny. I think this may be why the tags are different (46RH's are more reliable than 46RE's)

 

both trannys have the same 8 pin connectors and the other plugs are the same, both are from a5.9 engine, my question is will other year models work ? I cant see why A 97 would be a one year only deal

 

hello,i experienced the same problem my 97 had a 46re it took a crap and i couldnt find another one at a reasonable price so out of desperation i put a 42re in her from a 99 durango i had to change a couple of sensors on tranny with the ones off my 46re but it worked drives and shifts great this is just a temporary fix for me i dont know if it will cause any other problems but for now it will at least go down the road.
