Default Looking At A New Truck...No Reverse???

Girlfriend's brother found a 98 Dodge Ram for $3000
Went down to look at it, runs and drives great but when it's put into reverse it won't engage, which is why the price is so low. Could this be something little? If so, I planned on handing my keys over for my 99 to him and picking this 98 up for myself.

If the trans needs replaced, on average how much would a good used transmission run? I can do the swap myself so no mechanic is needed. Just prices on the tranny

Tranny needs rebuilding. If it is a 4X4 it will probably be too much for you to do yourself. Transfer case has to come out and they are heavy. $3k is no bargain for a '98 needing a tranny.

expect $1500-2000 for transmission.
in my feeble mind that makes it worth about $1500-2000 as is.

I'd pass.. take the $3,000 and put into your own truck and make it like new again!
