Default Gear identification question

JUST WANTED TO SAY HELLO TO EVERYONE. I CURRENTLY BOUGHT A 00 DODGE RAM 1500 4X4 AND FOUND OUT THAT THE REAR GEARS ARE BAD THE TAG ON THE COVER READS 3.9 AND THE OTHER TAG FROM WHAT I CAN SEE READS 29?? CANT REALLY SEE THE OTHER 2 NUMBERS. DOES THIS MEAN THAT I HAVE A 3.92 RATIO? NEED TO REPLACE THE GEARS AND FROM THE WAY IT SOUNDS SOON.

you probably have 3.55 gears. Look under your hood, on the bottom side of the hood itself, up by the grill. There should be a sticker there telling you your gearing, transmission, etc. Hope this helps ya out, welcome to Dodgeforum

Welcome to the forum. Do you know if youve bought an off road version. If you have then your running 4.10s. Otherwise, your most likely running 3.55. From what youve said though, seems like your running 3.92s.

Thanks guys! I'll have to check out the hood thing tomorrow, see what it says and I'm sure I'll be here tomorrow. I know it's not an off-road version. To Maxx Magnum and MowHawk, LOVE the hoods. So ok here is the deal. It's got a 5.9L. 4x4.

You can go onto the dodge website and request a build list for free. They will email it to you and that will give you all the info you need to know! Welcome to DodgeForum!

Thanks again everyone for the great info. here is my next question. If I was to put on 35's which would be the best gear ratio, 4.88 or 4.56?
