'96 to '2000 drive train question

Default '96 to '2000 drive train question

Hi , i'm looking at a 2000 1500 ram 4x4 sport 5.9 l auto with reverse gone ... i was woundering if someone might now without a doubht if the tranny, transfer case motor ect will fit into this 2000 from my 1996 ram 1500 4x4 sport , 5.9L , the trucks look almost identical.

p.s.. my 1996 is all stock .

The motor will swap as long as you change all the sensors. TCase is the same, but the trans from the 96 is a 46rh not a 46re. The 96 is OBD1 so the pcm is also not interchangeable.

Its the transmission i was woundering about mostly ... so there is no way to make it work ?

I don't know for sure, a tranny shop may be able to. It's probably not worth the effort or expense.
