Default Towing a 1998 1500

I am about to purchase a 1998 1500 Ram, that has some transmission issues. I am just wondering if I can't source a trailer to haul it with, if anyone knows of any reason why I can't just rent a car dolly from Uhaul or something and strap the front tires down?? I know it will raise the mileage by the amount it is being towed, that isn't an issue, I am just wondering if it would be better to put it in neutral or if it would even be ok to just remove the rear drive shaft...as I as going to have to do it anyways to do the transmission swap?? Wasn't sure if towing it with the rear drive shaft disconnected, and the rear tires on the road like that would cause any issues... Thank you guys for your help and I hope to join the 2nd Gen Ram club soon... already got the 3rd Gen covered.... mater of fact will be using it to tow the 2nd Gen..

Remove drive shaft. Or just disconnect it from the rear end. Doing this will help not destroy the tranny, as it may not require a complete replacement and if you have a X-fer case.

ya you may as well pull the driveshaft just to be safe.... FYI the proper way to tow an auto 4x4 is with the tranny in park and tcase in neutral. who knew eh?

I will just disconnect it... I just wanted to make sure that it wouldn't cause any issues on the rear end or anything towing with no drive shaft on it... Tranny will then be in Park, and the transfer case always in neutral!!! Thanks for your help guys!!

They may be to heavy to tow with a dolly but I have put mine on my car hauler before and it fit although it was close by the wheel wells.

To the OP you should buy a plug for the T-case so no fluid comes out or at least try to plug it some how.
