Default 2nd to 3rd Gear Shifting Issue

Hello all Newbie Here, In Need of Help! bought a 95 2500 Ext Cab 5.9 174,000 mi. This Trans, wants to hang in 2nd gear, over 2500 rpms..or more.. don't want to push it to see if it would shift at a higher than 3500 rpm. I can make it shift by Letting off untill the rpms are 1500- 1800 rpms and then it will shift into 3rd. 1st to 2nd shifts ok as does 3rd into 4th. Looked yesterday for same problem but didn't see same issue ? any help would be great. Thanks Gene

if all other gears shift at proper rpm I would hook a reader up to it and look for a trans code...usually this issue is caused by the govenewr pressure soleniod and sensor...its possible the tps (but unlikely since the other gears all shift ok...3 to 4 is controlled by a od soleniod I believe so...
mine got so bad it wouldnt shift out of 2nd at all till I changed the gov soleniod and sensor...but i got a 1741 error on a code reader (no check engine light btw)

Thanks Augiedoggy,
Is that solenoid and sensor a Dealer Part or can be bought at Autozone or Advance?

very expensive special order at autozone and advance doesnt have it...dealer cost was about $203 bucks with 5 quarts of atf+4 and a good filter and gasket.... you can however get the soleniod and sensor for like $50 a piece from transmission parts . com or something like that...I googled it and found the site... but I was impatient and bought from dealer who stocked it (they are a very common failure item according to dealership) there is even a kit to replace them with GM style ones here.... http://www.transmissioncenter.net/do...FRQpawodBCAaKw

I already bought the fluid and filter to change that, so I'll check around and see if I can grab them local also. Thanks again

Thanks Scottnfi,
Now I can see how to. But I just called the dealer for the parts, he told me that solenoid in my trans A 46RH, controls the OD & Lockup? Has nothing to do with 2-3rd shifts? Now I'm more confused, also called a 2nd dealer too and got the same info from him ?

yes thats because you have the earlier hydraulic transmission sorry...missed the "95" in your info....the later 46re that most 96 and on have uses two soleniods one for od and lockup and the gov pressure one for the other shifts.... baybe your tv cable is out of adjustment? sorry I dont know how to adjust it but others here do and may chime in...

The dealer is right.
The 46rh in your truck has a hydraulically controlled governor, no solenoids to control shifting.
Where as the 46re has electronically controlled governor, solenoids that control shifting.
That is the basic difference between RH and RE transmissions.
Both transmissions have solenoid controlled converter lockup and OD lock up.
