Default Building up a 383.

iv got my hands on a 383 from one of my "OLD" cars from when i first started driving, it was a 79 plymouth fury. And i had wrecked it along time ago and come to find out my father actually pulled the engine from the car before it went to the scrapper and didnt tell me untill now. Iv always loved the 383's because they'er bullet proof and they run forever.

My question is would it fit ? it's not much larger than a 360, and how many problems would i have with putting it in an keeping it running because the engine isnt fuel injected.

iv never put a carb'd engine in a fuel injected truck

It should fit as a guy on Pavementsucks.com put a carbed 440 in his truck. You may have to run an A-727 or some kind of manual as I doubt a 46RH will bolt up.

As for EFI you could use megasquirt or some other stand alone computer to run a chevy 454 TBI setup on top of a carbed manifold. That is also a very popular motor so there may be multiport fuel injection manifolds for it.

that would be a ton of work

the old LA motors and not use the magnum style heads

but that makes me wonder if the motor will blot up,, because they did have 518 trans back then too

big block. It was a retired statetrooper car my dad bought at auction for me when i was 15, it was a police training car at one time after it was retired. then they auctioned it off to the public. Engine is basicly mint cause when i wrecked the car it was all on the driver side back to the rear bumper, the front didnt have a scratch on it.

This was taken from the following web site:
http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm its about 3/4 ways down the page.

#56XXX. Chrysler Big Block (361, 383, 400, 413, 426, 440) to Dodge Small Block 518 transmission. This is the adapter everybody is looking for. 6 bolt crank Cost $639.00, 8 bolt crank Cost $680.00

Since its the Big Block it is not an LA motor I think it is a B engine. Nothing from the Magnum will swap over they are totally different motors. Even if they did make an A-518 back then (I didnt think it started till the early 90's) I seriously doubt the Mopar engineers put it behind the 383 BB.
