K&N oil filter, worth it?
True, but they still have to meet Mopar specs. Other brand filters may fit a wide variety of vehicles with different specs.
i think i might go with either a Wix or Mopar, after reading all you responses i just cant see spending $13 on somthing thats something else with a sticker on it. I can argue with Miami on the Mopar meeting factory spects, Is it any bigger than the Wix?
Mopar filters aren't bigger than Wix, sometimes they are made BY Wix.
I go with Wix, personally. Best bang for your buck. NAPA Gold is (at the moment) supposedly a Wix filter. I try and stay away from rebranded stuff myself, because they can change manufacturers at will, like Laramie stated. The whole meet Mopar specs thing... some Mopar filters are made by FRAM. Whether it meets the specs or not, they evidently don't pay much attention to quality of construction, otherwise they would never contract with FRAM. One word: cardboard.

ok ill go with a wix, the only reason im willing to change is because i drive my truck like i stole it, and the oil get dirty way to fast, ive tryed all the frams and its the same problem, i even had a motor craft and the same problem, although it didnt get dirty untill around 2500 or so, by dirty i mean if you drop it on a paper towel you dont see it under the oil, its just black, probly dont help that i idle all the time and its constenly in mud, water and dust, ive used different oil too, castroll, valvoline, and kendall, im gonna try pennzoil this time around, anybody use that and have compliants? what does dodge use from the factory?

Dodge used the cheapest damn oil they could get at the time. That's what your truck had in it from the factory. Most conventional oils will get dirty pretty quickly, but I wouldn't get too worried about it. Our motors aren't exactly like a glass ball. They aren't really that fragile. Of course, when you idle it all the time, and probably do like most other Americans do, your morning commute might not even get the motor up to temp and that is hell on it as well. If you want oil life, I suggest you start using synthetic.
As for your Penzoil question, last I heard, that brand has a wax product in it that helps eliminate the sludge. Not something I would be too willing to try on mine.
Check the Oil thread in the FAQ to kinda get an idea of what everyone is running, and that should get you a pretty good starting point.
What weight are you running as well???

K&N filters are made by Champion Labs, the same manufacturer of STP, Mobil 1, Super Tech, some AC Delcos, and a few others. K&N filters are the same as a Mobil 1 filter, just costs $2 more, is painted a different color, and doesnt have a nut welded on the top. If your truck really likes this kind of filter, get the Mobil 1 and save $2. But they are still expensive at $10-$14 a filter. There are also other choices, WIX, Donaldson, Baldwin, Hastings, and Purolator that make a competitve filter for $6 less.

i just changed my air filter in november, it usually is up to running temp before i hit town 10-15 min away depending on which way i take, i run 10-30
my friend is a testiment to the dodge motor build quality, i just got back from his house were he was doing a tune up, his rotor was melted to the distributer, he had 1.5 quarts of oil in his motor -yes thats right we put 4.5 quarts of oil in his motor- and both his 02 sensors were ripped out of the exhaust, he drives his truck 45 min one way to work every day, good ol 318 never let him down untill about 3 hours ago when it wouldnt start due to the rotor melting
i try to keep up on matinence so it dont leave me stranded, my friend only puts gas in it and put a clutch in it last year, every once and awhile he changes the oil, haha
