Default Clicking when slowing down

So my truck started making a clicking noise when I start slowing down. Seems like under 30mph I can hear it. I think it probably can't be heard over that due to the tires. Anyway, it sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the front end. I was originally thinking drivers shaft u joint however, I keep reading that when the axle u joints are bad they usually make noise in 4wd. My problem happens in both 2wd and 4wd. If it was the u joints would it still do it in 2wd? Is there a way to check the u joints? Or should I be looking for something else?

if it were a u joint it would most likely be making noise under acceleration, not slowing down. but yes you can check then, put the truck in neutral, block the tires, and grab a hold of the joint and see if it moves at all in any direction. if it does...change it. since the sound is heard when slowing down did you check your brakes? or wheel bearing? jack the front end up one side at a time and check to make sure there is no play in either wheel. up, down, side to side.

Haven't checked the wheel bearing in a while. I think it's been almost 3k miles since I rotated the tires and I usually check sort of then. It's not the brakes as I just changed them and it happens when on the brakes or off the brakes. It happens just coasting under 30 or so too. Not just when slowing down. I don't hear it when accelerating but that's due to the fact the exhaust is way louder than the clicking is.

i would start with checkin the front end, like the wheel bearing bc its not typical of a u joint to make noise when your "off" the throttle bc there isnt any torque on them.

BTW if I'm checking the hubs how can I tell if I have abs or not if they are bad? I'm pretty sure I do have ABS but not positive.

I'd check the wheel bearings. My truck made a clicking noise when my driver side wheel bearing went bad. I didn't hear the clicking noise until i was slowing down because of my exhaust, tires, and sometimes my radio

How do you check the wheel bearings? Or do you just rock the tire up and down like to check the hub? If it's the bearings can you replace just the bearings or do you have to replace the whole hub?

If you have ABS front brakes i think you will be able to see a wire going to the hub

Should look something like this...

When i checked my wheel bearing I got a car jack and lifted my truck's front wheel off the ground a few inches and grabbed it from the top and wiggled it. It should be nice and tight with no play in it.

You have to buy a whole new hub with the wheel bearing. I think mine was around $100 or so.
