In Minnesota where I live all gas has ethanol so my milage numbers reflect that. Small town living can be a real killer though since we're within 2 miles of anything in town,
My town milage with warm ups and 25 mph while in 4 wd because of the ice and snow gets me 9 mpg so far.

check your diff fluids too, with colder temps they are like molassis. you may want to upgrade to a lighter synthetic.

one of friends just put a bumper like yours on his cummins and his milage dropped about 2-3 mpgs, but he was getting 25-28 anyways so it didnt hurt all that much, if you kee it plugged in all night youll be ok, my naighbor has a d-max and hes on the squad here and has no problems let the oil pressure come up and your good

not ment to give you better MPG, its supposed to burn cleaner and it's cheaper to make, thus being cheaper to buy.

As far as gettin like 12mpg. I agree with the open air filter and smaller tires and maybe lose some weight where you can.

I had a 1996 12 valve cummins and had no problems starting it when it was -35 C out as long as i plugged it in. I ran 0W40 synthetic oil in it all winter to. The only thing to remember about the diesel is that parts are more $$ than the gas trucks.

keep the truck you have.. iesels have issues in cold weather.. fuel gels and if not plugged in they won't start.. not to mention glow plugs and injector pumps are not cheap to replace!!
