Might be going diesel....
Well, after the last three tanks getting between 5-8mpg I may be selling my truck, and going for a diesel. Any ideas to keep me from doing this( I would LOVE a diesel but I like my truck lol). Sooo the plenum isn't leaking I have done a tune up... I have been running the 10%+ ethanol fuel versus the ethanol free stuff i can get, would that make a difference? I also have been in 4wd alot due to snow.

do like me, 400lb's of sand bags in two wheel drive. i drive an hour one way to work everyday, "roughly 50 miles" and im getting around 15mpg, now if im in 4wd it drops down to about 9
Edit: also that big *** bumper of yours has alot to do with it, freakin weighs more than the damn engine!

Haha I have a topper, 2 sets of chains, and 4 sand bags=P I think thats plenty of weight haha. I love this truck though so I wanna bump my mpg to like 12 lol. Any ideas how I can get 11-12mpg?

Skinnier tires, less rolling resistance but will still give the dig for the snow, open style air cleaner, superchips tuner for just the mild tune, magna flow exhaust just the mild version, electric fan conversion.
Block under the gas pedal limiting rpms to 2100,
is the probably the most important thing, the "Garmin" 205 gps has a program that will help will retrain a person to drive more efficiently.
All that said, IMO you'll never get the milage of a desiel out of this large a vehicle/motor combonation
.
I'm up to 16mpg's for mine before the fan conversion and I'll check the milage with the fan conversion today.

extra weight, drive line drag from being in 4wd, low speeds (lower gear), resistance from the snow/slush along with putting ethanol in the tank is probably where your crap mileage is coming from.
^^^ Ditto. I did the ethanol idea once. Never again. I got way less mileage and didn't notice any power changes. I don't wee where ethanol helps any of the older vehicles but thats just my 2 cents. As far as gettin like 12mpg. I agree with the open air filter and smaller tires and maybe lose some weight where you can.

it should get better when the snow melts and you can stay in 2wd on the pavement. but if you keep putting the ethanol blend in there you will continue to have worse mileage, i think the ethanol blend normally kills about 1mpg.
