okay so i bought a 97 dodge ram 1500 5.9L motor
green extended cab
155,000 miles on it
my compression in #5 cyl is only at 105psi throws a check engine light
compression test sounds like air is coming up through the fill oil part


best case 1200 to rebuild top end
worst case full rebuild

should i just get a rebuild motor for 1800???
start fresh id have to install it my self. i talk to shop he said with that many miles that he would. orginal motor.
or should i try to smog it and run the motor till it goes it still pulls strong.
u can tell that theres a mis fire but not all the time.

 

try squirting a little oil down the #5 hole and see if compression goes up.. if it does its rings.. if not then it maybe in the head.. my guess is its in the rings...
