Default clicking coming from steering column

i've noticed an intermittent problem lately...when i'm turning, either like a u turn or turning onto another street from a stop sign, my steering column clicks several times while turning, then clicks some more while returning to straight....i would say it does it about half the time i'm doing a serious turn (as opposed to a lane change turn)...any ideas or anyone had this happen to them?

I'd check the bolt that holds the shaft together just above the steering box. Is your steering wheel misaligned when your wheels are lined up straight ahead?

everythings straight, i just had my alignment done...3 weeks ago, and this clicking has been goin on for better part of a year now, and when the tires are straight, the steering wheel is straight....i heard it again and i guess it almost sounds more like a spring or something but it's hard to tell cause it doesn't sound the same everytime it does it.
